Two ex Google engineers, Tom Costello and Anna Patterson, along with a third person, Russel Power, have released a new search engine. Cuil started with 120 billion indexed pages and they stated that their new search engine has the biggest index of them all. Probably they haven’t read Google’s last post, where they say to have indexed more than 1 trillion pages, which is almost 8 times more than that.
From the tests I was able to make until it got down, it doesn’t seem very relevant and there are a lot of searches it returns no results, while other search engines do.
Cuil is a wannabe semantic search engine, understanding the meaning of words, but it’s not very good at it. Until now, I didn’t find anything I could like at it, better than Google. What I am satisfied of is the simple design.

There’s plenty of search engines on the www and while google and yahoo are on I don’t see why oanyone would like to use this small search engines.
As for design it’s prety cool actualy. With this design the top position competition is eleminated and this is a + for the engine from my point of view.
I like the fresh, dark-yet-classy design of Cuil, but I don’t really like the way it searches. It reminds me of Stumbleupon, where it gives you many options but doesn’t give you the most relevant one. But they are new, and I think they are off to a good start!
Simple as it may be (and I love minimizing) but does this even come close to making a dent in the world of search engines?
I think that cuil will not have a good future.. because google it`s too powerful to defeat it.
Has yet to index my site after two weeks of waiting…hmm…. not sure if it will be big or not.
I just don’t see this search engine doing anything to Google, what I do see it doing is dying out and people forgetting it. Oh well though.
This SE is not ready for prime time. It’s too bad they hyped it so much for such a bas product. Maybe over time it will be a killer SE, but that isn’t likely.
They should have thought of a better name. When I first heard of cuil I pronounced it kee-ul. I guess it’s supposed to sound like “kewl”. Branding **** up in my opinion.

I think that Cuil will be forgotten very soon. They made it public very soon and they will probably never have similar media attention again as it’s no more attractive for media. Google needs some serious competitor but Cuil is not the case.
Google’s main strength is in providing the most relevant and useful pages to the user. Cuil needs to go a step beyond Google in that regard to have a shot, and I think they’re a long way off still. I’m very used to the way Google displays searches too, so their display was odd to me too.
I hope this turns out to be a Google competitor eventually. Google really needs it !
To see the retard who post such stupidity…. he has no idea about search engines, he performed some “tests” …Google has years of feedback from users in order for relevancy, Cuil is good enopugh for a new one.

After today Google will have added to their companies growth. They just keep getting bigger.
Definitely a fail.. I’ve heard so many bad reports. So far — I’m not impressed, but maybe they’ll improve with time.
Nearly each week look in I here and read with large interest the interesting and always well written contributions. Today I would like to leave gladly to a greeting from Thuringia in Germany!
cuil is good but not better than google now, hakia is also alternative for google
There is more then enough space in the cyberspace to accomodate one more search engine. I think instead of thinking big, they should go niche first.
just had a look at the search engine, first time I heard about it. interface is great. specially the use of ajax
This is an informative post. Thanks.
Great post very detailed and never even heard of this search engine i checked it out but is no where near being the next big thing or overtaking google

I have never heard of this to be honest, think I’ll just stick with Google!
Today’s three search engines are very popular one of them most popular is google after that yahoo and lastly MSN. Other search engines hardly known by the users. I think I am not sure it will rise or not. can be in future it get rise….

Yeah… how did this one work out? Cuil was an awful idea. Their search results are almost nonsensical.
it is very great site I hope this turns out to be a Google competitor eventually. Google really needs it
