6 Sure-Fire Tricks That Will Make Your Posts Go Viral

You’ve probably seen viral posts of videos and though about how you could it yourself. That’s where I were a while ago too, so I started doing some research and tests, after I found the “secret formula.”
If your posts go viral, then your traffic will spike and you will get a lot of exposure, but there are a lot of things you need to think of before writing such a post. I have been doing this for a few years and I have accumulated a lot of experience I want to share with you.
1. Titles
The title of your post is very important, because it will make your users decide if they want to read the post or not. And now it’s more important because on social networks like Twitter and Facebook, you can only see titles and those make you decide if a post is worthy or not.
While titles won’t usually convince people to share your post, they will absolutely convince them to read it. You need to thing a lot before choosing the right title and this is the time when you have to forget about SEO and write your title entirely for your readers, because now only people and social media are your friends and not search engines.
You should also try to begin your words in the title with capitals, because it makes it easier for your users to read the title and it suggests them better what the post is about. Also it can show off better on social media websites, being noticed easier than the other titles.
2. Content
If your title has been convincing enough, then they will start reading your post and now it’s the time for them to decide if the post is worthy enough to share or not. The content will be the one that helps them to take that decision, so you have to be very careful. Write correctly, don’t make mistakes and always try to satisfy their curiosity, by telling them interesting things.
Writing quality content is not very hard, but you need to be careful not to screw it, because people only share what they truly enjoy.
3. Images
You know an image is worth a thousands words, so you will have to choose your image carefully for your posts, because they can trigger people’s senses and make them feel what you want them to feel. The image placement is also important, but I will tell you more about it in the structure part.
You should think about everything when choosing the image, from what it represents to the colors and size. Make sure it’s the perfect fit for your post. If you need to explain something through images or talk about something real, then show as many images as you can, because people love them.
4. Structure
You need to make your posts easy to read for your people, so make sure you have a big enough font. Only write black on white and separate it in many paragraphs. If you can, try to structure your post as I did with this one, in more numbered or unnumbered parts, because people will read it easily and won’t get bored that fast.
Also by structuring it very well, you can make them understand better what you’re talking about.
5. Lists
Usually lists go viral more quickly than normal posts, so you need to have this in mind. For example, instead of writing a post entitled “Some cool and weird usb drives,” you might want to use a title like “Top 10 Craziest USB Drives You’ve Ever Seen.” The second title sounds more interesting and it will definitely generate more clicks, while it will get shared more if you make a top 10 list instead of just throwing away 10 photos of the drives in your post.
5. Share Buttons
Make sure to have share buttons at least at the end of your post to make it easier for your readers to RT, Share, Stumble or Digg your post. You can use whatever buttons you want, just make sure to test them all and see what works best for you. You need to test everything, from different social media websites to different button sizes and styles. Make sure not to miss anything.
6. Networking
After you’ve written your killer wanna-be viral post, make sure you let people know about it, so call out your friends and let them spread the word about it. You need to be really persuasive about it, especially if you don’t have a very big readership and you don’t usually get dozens to hundreds of retweets per post.
You can tweet about your post every few hours, ask your friends to retweet it and share on whatever social network works best for you and your blog. I’m not advising you to start spamming people around about it, but you could ask some close friends or bloggers you know and who would like to help you
Conclusion
I hope my post helped you and also I hope I’ve written enough advices for you to succeed with your posts.
Making posts go viral isn’t hard, you just need to pay attention to some things and do your best. Also you need to have a good idea, because you can’t expect any random post to go viral.
If you manage to follow all the tips above, then only sky is the limit for your post.
Please let me know what you think and if you have any further questions or ideas !
Great post Alex.
I agree 100% about the lists point, almost every post I have written that gained traction included some form of a list.
I’m glad to see the viral type content, keep it up!
Yeah, people really love lists
Lists are very helpful to go viral. I have tried one post in my blog about a checklist of my own top IM bloggers and I see that I have few comments at least. Better than none. It’s really wonderful man.
Exactly. Create something that people want to read and there you have a viral success!
That’s write. You have to make people read and share
Yep! I cannot tell you how many times I thought something I published would go viral but flopped. Oh well, keep trying!
Good post again Alex. I have been trying to boost my readership also by making videos and posting them on Youtube. It could be difficult depending on the nature of your blog.
It seems that making videos go viral is easier than posts because videos take up less viewer / reader time, but videos are videos and won’t help with repeat traffic.
Another great post Alex. Food for thought! Thanks!
Thanks, Jun !
I also agree that lists are one of the most attracted content that we ever seen, which needs to match with the title, images and structure of a blog post. Thanks!
Oh I almost forgot Alex, you are one of my top IM bloggers in my checklist (not by rank). See here.

Hehehe……:)
Cool list Jeff!
Hey Alex,
Thanks for the fiery tricks there. This is something that I need to apply for my blog because I don’t have much readers yet, so I need to upgrade my own battery for it.
You should, Jeff !
Thanks man! You’re firing up my charcoals again. My own stove will begin to burn. I’m focusing myself to accomplish my own dreams and I will prove to them that I can do it like you and the others.
All your points are very good but I really think that Content should be #1. You can have a good title, share buttons, etc. but if the content is not good people won’t share it…
That’s what I said, but first they will read the title and that’s what makes them decide to read the entire post
I have share buttons of my blog like Facebook and Twitter, but my problem is that I am lacking readers and I need to take action too. Perhaps I should start spread all of my posts to social bookmarks as well right?
Jeff, yes you should. I have found that certain content does better in terms of social networking though, so it is a matter of producing that content that people WANT to share.
Tittle is important to catch the attention. Then first paragraph is important to convince reader to read until the end (the statistics shows us that most readers are lost in first paragraph).
Then the content of course is important to convince the reader to share it.
From my point of view, this is how it works and i can’t say title is more important than other content, or the content is more important than a title.
My answer was for Alex Panait, but it wasn’t “arranged” ok
I think titles are the most important, I recently did a post and I got the front page of Technorati
Congrats Dan, that’s great! The title is the first impression so naturally it will be very important.
Have you ever been first page of Digg?
I’ve been a top digger about 18-20 months ago, so I’ve learned a bit about headlines
I’ve read your post about that. Congrats
Alex, catchy titles will do the trick in going viral,
Marios
Need to have some “meat” on the content as well, but a good title is a necessity almost always!
Exactly
Yeah, you can’t succeed without them
I’d need to work on my titles, that’s for sure. I agree with Alex Panait, good content does go “viral”. Cannot comment on the submit buttons, since I hate them with a passion. I see too many blogs using 20-30 buttons and I do believe most of the time they’re taking up space. I don’t have the time to read 100 blogs/day and also promote to other sites
I agree with you about dozens of buttons. I believe 2-5 buttons are enough, because you have to keep only the ones that DO help.
Then there is a simple request to another fellow blogger or twitter follower to share your post. those usually help.
Hi Alex,
Really I’m so glad to read this post! I am a newbie and these tips regarding viral post are really interesting and very useful for me..Thank You for sharing! Keep Rocking..
