{EAV:5bd6b5cecfd64fa7}

Lately I have been extremely busy improving my websites, because some of them were hit by Panda and I felt like they all lacked a proper usability. This is not an excuse to not post on this blog anymore, but fortunately I have a lot of great posts to write from my recent experiences.

I keep visiting a lot of websites that provide very good content, but fail badly on the usability side which can be improved with some work. And I felt that my websites can be seriously improved too, so I started learning about UX and then began some tests. Soon after I realized that Bounce Rate can be easily decreased and time on site consistently increased by just making some minor changes. So I started changing basically everything.

I will structure this post according to the steps I made in order to improve the UX ( user experience ) of my website and will also list most of the things I changed during the experiments. I will also state if the changes made affected my visitors actively or passively. I call passive changing the background colors, while active are the URL colors, font, size, or the clickable thumbnails.

What I changed

Passive:

Site background

Title size and font

Font size and family ( tried Arial and Georgia )

Font color ( from black to dark grey )

Logo

Location of images in the articles

Website width ( Between 800px and 1020px )

Loading speed

Number of images

Website clutter

Active:

Menu ( font size, color and family, background color, button names )

Related pages ( font size and color, background color, position, thumbnail size, position, and color )

Sidebar ( position left and right, size )

Tried many things on the sidebar ( tested latest posts, popular posts, most commented, picked articles manually, picked them by CTR )

Ads ( tried to get the best CTR possible by not degrading usability )

Sharing buttons ( tried dozens of positions, sizes and tried to use as few as possible )

So here’s the steps I made to be able to improve the usability of my websites

1. Learning

I am not an usability expert neither did I know very much about it when I decided I want to improve my websites. So I started reading a lot of guides, blogs, ebooks and discuss on forums. After that I started asking people to compare my websites with other websites from the same niche, without telling them which one is mine. This way they gave me an unbiased answer. This helped me a lot because I asked them to tell me what do they like at each website and what are the turn downs of everyone. Starting from this I began analyzing them myself and I also got some help from some friends of mine who are web design and UX experts.

It wasn’t easy as I wasn’t thinking like a non-tech-savvy user so most websites seemed to have pretty good UX to me. But by reading the guides, analyzing thousands of websites I began thinking the way a newbie internet user thinks.

2. Planning

Doing an usability test is not an easy job at all because you need very good planning, patience and pretty good web design and coding skills. So again I started working along with professionals to help me setup split tests for the changes I listed above. But you can’t do it chaotically because you will not know what causes the changes and what didn’t. So I planned everything very carefully and made the changes gradually after I tracked absolutely every change I noticed.

3. Testing

While doing tests you first need to think as a newbie user and even more. After you imagine how an user would feel on your website, you need to consider more things. What if he doesn’t notice that button or that link. So include bigger buttons, links or any other navigation elements in your test. If they prove not to work or to actually degrade the UX of your website it’s fine, you can take them down. But do it, because you can never predict what the results will be.

4. Tracking

Some of you might think “I’m using Google Analytics, so I’m tracking my website very well,” but you are so wrong. You need to track every click and every action the user takes in order to make an accurate UX split test. So make sure to use the really good features Google Analytics offers with proper coding along with a tool like CrazyEgg. Each change can affect the bounce rate, time on site, CTR on every link, social involvement and so on. So track absolutely everything. Of course you can go wrong sometimes, so that is why you need to be very careful about this.

5. Understanding the analytics

If you have done a proper tracking of your visitors’ activity, then you will now have a huge amount of data to analyze. This also isn’t an easy job to do, because you might get blinded by a decreased bounce rate, an increase CTR on some areas or better social involvement. But most probably you will not improve them all. Everything goes up at the cost of something else going down. So you need to set some priorities for yourself. Do you want to focus on decreased bounce rate and a higher ads CTR ? Then keep the changes that help you in this direction. Unfortunately some people focus on the wrong things. For example if you choose to focus solely on ad revenue, you might seriously decrease the UX which could significantly decrease your traffic and future growth.

There are a lot of calculations and predictions to be done in order to ensure a good long-time revenue. But usually you need to be satisfied with a short-time revenue because ads decrease UX and bad UX decreases growth.

Conclusion

I spent over 6 months to increase the UX of my major websites, but it was definitely worth it. I managed to increase time on site, decrease bounce rate and even increase ad revenue CPM by almost 40%. 6 months ago I wasn’t even dreaming this is possible and I can bet that’s what you’re thinking too. So start testing and you will see there are huge improvements to be made to your website.

And after you do manage to improve your UX, plan another set of tests and begin running them, because nothing is ever perfect and you can always improve.

Unfortunately writing a killer post doesn’t guarantee it will go viral, so you need to work after that, especially if you don’t have a large readership and many followers on your social media profiles. Though it can be done with at least a few hundred people who follow you and read your blog.

You should first read my post 6 Sure-Fire Tricks That Will Make Your Posts Go Viral, where you can learn how to write the post. Afterwards read this post and learn how to promote it.

After you made sure to write a great post that people will love to share, you need to follow these rules:

1. Make sure it gets to at least 100 people

If your post will get to at least 100 people’s eyeballs, then chances are that at least a few of them will share it with their friends and it might get viral. Of course the chances of getting a lot of traffic increase with the amount of people who read it, so make sure to get it distributed to as many as you can.

2. The people it gets to need to be passionate about the niche

The above rule is valid only if your followers are passionate about the niche. Otherwise, they will just close the page and won’t share it with anyone. So that’s why is very important to get targeted traffic, followers and fans. Relevancy is more important than the quantity, always keep this in mind.

3. Share it on all your social profiles

Make sure to let all your friends, followers and fans know about your post. Also you can share the link a few times so you make sure everyone sees it. For better results, share it at different hours so you will cover all the time zones. Most links on Twitter are only seen in the first hour, so you need to make sure to share it at some hours most of your followers are online.

4. Email everyone

Like I told you already, you need to make profit of all the channels you have, so let anybody know about your killer post. Send an email to your mailing list, friends and other people you know who might be interested in your niche. Please note that I don’t advise you to make spam, just send the email to people who might be interested and you know are passionate about the niche. Also you shouldn’t send them emails very often, just do it when you have something really interesting.

5. Ask the people to vote it, share it or do anything you may need

When sending the emails and sharing it with your friends, you can ask them to share it further for you or vote it on the social media websites you’ve submitted it to, like Digg, Reddit, or StumbleUpon. Not everyone will do it, but there are some who like to help and will do it especially if they like it. Make sure not to disturb them very much about this. Only ask them once and understand if they don’t do it.

6. Ask people to comment on your social media submissions

Usually submissions with a few comments have more chances of getting voted that the others. This way people see that others are also interested about your post and might want to check it out. They might vote it and even comment too. Along with this, some social media websites count the comments too and it might influence the way your post reaches the front page. This is known especially on Digg and StumbleUpon, but it might work on others too. Also make sure the comments don’t look like they’ve been written just for this. The comments need to express something and be longer than just a few words. If you do have spammy comments, it might actually hurt your submission.

7. Always ask for your readers’ opinion

I’ve told you a few times before, you always have to make your readers and followers engage with you, so ask for their opinion about your post. It doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad feedback, it stirs even more engagement. Also social media is about engagement. On Twitter it’s great if people mention you, because you will be featured in their timeline, so all their followers will see a link to your username. On Facebook the post with the most engagement appear in the “Top News” section which is exactly on the frontpage, so here’s where it helps a lot.

Now please let me know what do you think about my post and if you have more ideas for getting a post viral.

Last year has been the best one for me and I’ve learned a lot of things I want to share with you. I think I’ve become more mature professionally and I’m very happy about it.

So here’s what I’ve learnt last year:

1. Stick to what brings value

Until now I was working on what I liked the most and I didn’t have a plan. Also I started testing and analyzing everything and stopped losing time with things that didn’t bring much value. This has helped me a lot and I became much more productive. I will continue doing this forever I believe because it’s extremely important and I stopped losing time without any use.

2. Risks can prove to be very satisfying

Most people are afraid to risk losing their money and the first risk they don’t wanna take is buying a domain and a quality hosting. And this is the biggest mistake they can do because you can’t do anything without quality. You need to measure the risk very well and take it if there are pretty high chances of success. Without taking risks, it’s hard to achieve something. I have been risking all my life, but I think last year I’ve learnt to do it much better.

3. Focus on less things

You need to focus on what’s worth and stop investing in what’s bringing the poorest results. Don’t start dozens of websites or businesses because you’ll lose your focus and chances to succeed are going down seriously. Take then one by one and make sure you’re doing it right.

4. Don’t work by yourself

Last year I launched my first company and started getting partners and employees. Until now I’ve reached more than 20 employees of which 8 of them full time and I’m planning on getting even bigger. Things started to grow much faster than before because now I can focus on other things, while having employees do most of my past jobs.

5. Research a lot

Until now I’ve been doing things randomly without any prior research and productivity was awful. Now I started doing a lot of research and had some of my employees do the same, which helped a lot, because now I know what I need to focus on and what works best. This year I want to do some training with all my employees and help them become more productive and do researches. Why I believe they will be interested is because they get bonuses triggered by their productivity.

An online business is not about traffic numbers, but conversions and revenues, so don’t focus on getting as much traffic as you can, instead rely on quality. There are an infinite traffic sources and some of them are very cheap, while others are very expensive. You must think there must be a reason the prices differ so much and CPM for websites in the same niche can be very different.

Traffic quality is very important and you only need to focus on the traffic that converts, even if by conversion you mean an ad click, a lead or a sale. For example the traffic from most social networks is very poor and it converts badly, so why struggle with it if you aren’t earnings anything from ?

To make sure you don’t spend your time getting poor quality traffic, you need to track everything and only rely on what works. So even if you are promoting your website on social networks, do blog comments, forum posts, buy PPC advertising or banner advertising, make sure to track everything and stop wasting your time with things that don’t work for you. It doesn’t matter a method brings you a lot of traffic, track your conversions and make more landing pages so you can see which source gets you the best conversion rate.

I see a lot of people complaining that they have traffic, but make no money from it and don’t know why. And this is because all they do is look at the traffic numbers and expect to sell.

Along with tracking the quality of traffic, you need to do a lot of split tests and see what works best for you.

I’m very curious how do you track your traffic and if you spend your time getting useless traffic. Let me know.

Facebook has become the second most visited website and the number one traffic source for some blogs, so you need to pay attention to it, because you’re leaving a lot of cash on the table otherwise. Facebook has a lot of advantages over the other social networks and social media websites, being much bigger than all of them and you also don’t need a very strong profile to succeed. Though having a powerful profile will help you, so I will give you a few tips about making one.

I have started focusing on Facebook not too long ago and the traffic spiked very well since then, so now I’m spending a lot of time researching and testing. Until now everything went extremely well and Facebook can send much more traffic than Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit or Twitter. And the best part is that Facebook traffic is much more targeted than from any other social network and this is very important. The bounce rate and time on site for the Facebook visitors are a few times better than for the visitors from any of the other social networks.

So hopefully I convinced you that you have to focus on Facebook and crush it. Now let’s offer you some advises on what you have to do.

1. Profile

Having a good profile it’s very important, because you need to make many friends and hopefully you’ll make targeted friends. Having a well established profile will bring you friends with the same interests as you, so you can later market your websites much easier to them. You need to set up your interests, like only the pages related to your niche or niches and make sure you don’t have just another profile every other high school student has.

You must also use the same profile picture on all social media website so people can notice your easier.

2. Add Friends

Having friends is very important, because they’re the ones who help you build a Facebook page and at the beginning they will visit your websites. So you have to be careful which ones you add, because Facebook has a limit of 5,000, but you won’t be able to reach it just by adding friends. There are some restrictions, so you will only be able to add a few hundred friends until your profile will be restricted from adding more.

My suggestion is to always watch your competitors’ Facebook pages and see who comments on their posts. This way you are sure that the ones you add are interested in your niche and they are also very active on Facebook. You need people to like, share, and comment to your posts, so make sure to have active friends, because they will help you a lot.

You really need to add people that have the interests you want, because you will be able to interact easier with them and they will most probably like your posts.

3. Engage with your friends

It’s not just about adding friends like crazy and then posting tons of links on your wall, because they will simply ignore them or remove you from their friends list. You need to engage with them, comment on their wall posts and say hi from time to time. Of course, when you get to a few hundred or thousand friends, it’s hard to interact with each one of them, but it’s ok to spend some time daily and engage with some of them. Be sure they will do the same and it’s one more thing. On Facebook it’s about exposure too, so the most you interact with others, the more exposure you will have. Their friends will see what you post or comment on their wall and they might add you as a friend or visit your links. And that’s what you want, right ?

4. Message people

One good method of getting people to do something for you is sending a private message. Unfortunately there is a lot of spam on Facebook and you message might be ignored by many, but it’s worth trying. Especially if you’ve interacted more with some people, you can ask them to share something with their friends or even suggest them to join your page. The messaging function can prove to be very helpful, if you use it accordingly and don’t spam. You need to take care what you send them and how many messages you send. Don’t stress them too much and some of them will definitely help you.

5. Email people

Most Facebook users have their email public on their Info page, so you can take the address and hit them with an email, which is more personal than a private message. I recommend you to do this if you want to ask them something that requires them more time, because be sure they don’t receive many emails from their Facebook friends and it will be more personal. You also need to take care how you send the email and try to be as personal as possible. Of course you can get a few dozen emails of your friends an BCC them all, but this will decrease your chances of getting a good response from them. You’d better spend more time and send them a personalized email. And I have one more tip for you.

If you want to increase your chances of getting your friend to do what you want, first send him an email where you just ask him if he has 2 minutes to help you with something, but don’t tell him anything else. After he gives you a positive answers, you can hit him with the request. This way, your chances will be much higher.

6. Make a page

A Facebook page is very good as everyone who likes it will see your posts in his timeline, so you could compare it to a RSS subscription, though more social. Unlike the RSS subscription, they will not see all your posts, because of the avalanche of posts created on Facebook, but be sure some will see them and they have the option to like and share them, which can help you a lot. If every post on your page gets a few shares by yours fans, this will bring you pretty good traffic. And the ones they share your posts with might like the post and actually become a fan of your page too. I believe we could call this the new RSS or the social RSS.

7. Research

In this post, I’ve shared with you my own experience with Facebook, until I did a lot of research and tested everything, but you definitely need to do it yourself, because you might have better ideas than I had and there might be better ways of promoting some niches on Facebook. You should never rely on things you read, but try your own ideas and do a lot of research. You might find some much better ways of getting traffic from Facebook than I did.

8. Post accordingly

You need to be very careful with the things you post, because that’s what makes your friends like and share your posts. You must make many interesting posts and don’t spam your friends with your website links. Make them feel you’re a real person and not just an automated bot that aggregates a RSS feed. I even suggest you don’t activate an aggregator app on your profile and better share links manually with your own comment. It will be much better and the chances of your friends to engage with you and share your links are way higher.

Ending

While I’m writing this post, I’m really excited of the traffic Facebook can send and also the quality of the traffic, so I tell you. You really need to focus on Facebook, otherwise you’re living a lot on the table. Don’t be lazy, don’t let it for later, don’t procrastinate, do it right now and you will not regret.

I want to hear your opinions and experience with Facebook, please.

I know 1,000 visits per day is not very much, though this blog is only a passion of mine and I write here because I like it, so I’m very happy it grew this fast. Unfortunately I can’t spend more than 2 or maximum 3 hours daily for this blog, so I try to be very productive with it and the results are really great.

I have used some of the marketing techniques I’ve learned during my career in internet marketing and I’m quite happy I managed to create a nice community here and to help people think more about their dreams. This month I started receiving more emails from people thanking me for the posts I’ve written and who tell me that I motivate them to work harder and follow their dreams.

You must know these emails make me very happy and make me continue writing useful posts for you.

Now let’s talk about how I managed to reach my goals with this blog ( almost ).

I started writing posts that got relatively viral, with many retweets and shares on Facebook and some people also mailed my posts to their friends. Since I started the blog, I’ve got some new friends too, to whom I talk either on Twitter, Facebook, or IM. Like I’ve always told you, quality content is the key to success and I did my best to write interesting posts for you and I will continue doing so, because I really want to help people.

Of course, having quality posts will not bring you traffic directly if you have no readers, so there’s some additional work required. Fortunately, I’ve had a lot of friends and fans before starting this blog who subscribed and now read all my posts and they have proven to be a real help for me. I’ve also promoted it on Twitter, Facebook, StumbleUpon and some other smaller social networks.

I started writing comments on related blogs, either small or bigger, like John Chow, ProBlogger, Shoemoney, Jonathan Volk, Daniel Lew, Ryan Biddulph and more. Some of the blogs have the top commentators plugin installed with a do follow link, so I’ve also got some link love, though my search engine traffic is pretty low and it’s never going to be an important traffic source for me.

My new friends have helped me with promoting this blog, by sharing it and linking to it, so that’s why I always say networking is very important. For me, it’s been a key factor to success, along with the content. Along with those I’ve talked, there are many others who linked to my blog either in their posts or added me to their blogroll and my traffic spikes with every good post I write.

If you still don’t believe quality content and useful posts are important, I should tell you what difference it is between posts like “3 Easy Ways To Get Traffic and Exposure Fast,” “6 Sure-fire Tricks That Will Make Your Post Go Viral,” “5 Mistakes That Kept Me From Becoming a Millionaire,” “How I Got Over 23 Million Visits in Just 18 Months,” and other simple posts, like the Sunday Must Read series. There are thousands of blogs out there so people have a lot to choose from. The most important thing is to be unique and provide value to them, because otherwise you will not prove them you are better than the others, so you still be one of the all anonymous bloggers out there.

I’ve written some killer guest posts too, but I went for bigger blogs and I have to wait a bit until my posts get published, unfortunately, though I’m glad my posts will have a great audience. Currently I’m in the talks with some huge bloggers to write guest posts for them and if they are going to accept, my traffic will spike so fast that I’m going to reach my challenge immediately. Though I don’t know how many of them will accept, because they are very choosy with their posts and it’s also pretty hard to reach them. Fortunately for me, I have some connections who recommended me, so I might get lucky.

Basically, I didn’t use any secret technique to increase my traffic and you all can do what I did, especially that some of you have even more free time than me.

Using your own name as the blog domain can prove to be very useful, especially for personal branding, because people will know who wrote the posts they’re reading and who’s behind the blog and this might help you a lot. Personal branding is very important, because it can get you better jobs and relationships. Also having a good personal branding will contribute to the way people look at you.

It’s More Personal

People love the feeling that they’re interacting with a real person and they will feel better when reading a personal blog with a real person’s name than a generic name. I know the other blogs usually post the author’s name and sometimes even a bio, but it’s not the same thing, because you can get the feeling that blogger are only doing the job they are paid for, while those who write on their own blogs are usually doing it from passion.

You can get to your readers hard easier if you are more personal and that’s what every marketer wants, right ? Make them feel they have a closer relationship to you, and you will sell.

Better Engagement

Did you notice blogs like mine, that have the name as the domain, get more comments than the others ? I’m having a relatively low traffic and I’m getting over 20-30 comments on each post, while many other blogs bigger than mine don’t even get half of that. On my blog they will always know who they are talking with, while on other blogs they need to search for the post author.

There have been some controversies lately that comments don’t make money and I totally disagree, because the readers who engage with you may feel closer to you and it will be easier to get to them.

Make Use of Your Existing Personal Brand

Along with this, a lot of Google traffic comes for keywords like “Alex Dumitru,” “Alex Dumitru Blog,” “Sandossu,” etc. Actually Sandossu was my nickname until I decided to do for my own name. I will write a post about that too, because I’m really glad I did it.

Also you might be known in the niche your writing and people will find you easier this way. And this means traffic without any marketing, just use your own name and they will find you. Of course you can always let everybody know that you do have a blog, but still there are a lot of people you can’t reach.

It Inspires Trust

Your readers will trust you more if they know from the beginning what’s your real name and if you also write a nice “About me” page. And it’s very important to gain your readers’ trust, because you might want to make money from your blog either by selling your own product or others through affiliate. If people trust you, it will be much easier to sell it to them.

Ending

These are the advantages of using your own name in the domain of your blog, but stay put, because there are some disadvantages too. I will write a post about them in the following days.

So let me know what you think. What would you choose, if it were to begin a blog right now ?

Backlinks and exposure are two important factors for every blogger and everyone wants them, though some struggle hard and don’t manage to do it. I won’t come with any mind-blowing ideas or blackhat techniques, but only 3 ideas that could bring you some backlinks, exposure and traffic for the beginning.

While you shouldn’t blog for the robots, you definitely need to care about SEO and do your best to get better ranks on search engines. The search engine traffic is usually the best, because it converts very well and is also very targeted. Fortunately, the 3 ways I will be talking about will bring you both traffic from search engines and also targeted traffic from other blogs in your niche.

So let’s get started, because I want to be quick and I also know your time is important.

1. Network

Networking can help you a lot, especially online, where you can do it extremely easy, because there are dozens of huge platforms where you can find people who have the same interests as you. So you should spend some time networking with fellow bloggers from your niche and help each other succeed and no, don’t think about competition, because they only represent a small portion of your competition. While it’s harder to succeed by yourself, you will find it way easier if you get some people by your side and help each other.

This way you can get a lot of high value backlinks from your competition and together you will be able to outrank the others, especially if they prefer to be solitary wolves.

2. Comment

Many believe comments are useless, though I really believe they can bring a lot of value, if they are written wisely. Spamming tons of blogs with comments like “Great post”, “Thanks,” and so on won’t help, because nobody will notice it and if they will, it will surely be marked as spam. But if you write intelligent comments on other blogs from your niche, you can trigger both that bloggers and readers attention, which means exposure and traffic. Some blogs have do-follow comments and other have do-follow links for the top commentators, which means quality backlinks.

You need to decide where you want to comment and subscribe to those blogs. Don’t make a huge list, because it will be hard to keep track of them all. Along with getting value from comments, you will also be able to learn more from their posts and research the way they succeed in the specific niche.

3. Link Bait

Link bait is a really controversial topic nowadays, because everyone talks about it, but few know how to do it correctly, so you need to learn more about it, do some research and test a lot. Link Bait has to be done very carefully, because everything matters when writing a post like this, especially the headline, image, and quality of the content.

Also you should know that link bait depends on the first 2 ways I have been talking about. You need to do some networking before, because some friends need to help you kick-start your link bait post. Commenting on other blogs will also bring visitors that may see your link bait post and actually link to it or share it. Link bait posts usually go viral, which also means backlinks, exposure and traffic, and that’s what you want, right ?

You’ve probably seen viral posts of videos and though about how you could it yourself. That’s where I were a while ago too, so I started doing some research and tests, after I found the “secret formula.”

If your posts go viral, then your traffic will spike and you will get a lot of exposure, but there are a lot of things you need to think of before writing such a post. I have been doing this for a few years and I have accumulated a lot of experience I want to share with you.

1. Titles

The title of your post is very important, because it will make your users decide if they want to read the post or not. And now it’s more important because on social networks like Twitter and Facebook, you can only see titles and those make you decide if a post is worthy or not.

While titles won’t usually convince people to share your post, they will absolutely convince them to read it. You need to thing a lot before choosing the right title and this is the time when you have to forget about SEO and write your title entirely for your readers, because now only people and social media are your friends and not search engines.

You should also try to begin your words in the title with capitals, because it makes it easier for your users to read the title and it suggests them better what the post is about. Also it can show off better on social media websites, being noticed easier than the other titles.

2. Content

If your title has been convincing enough, then they will start reading your post and now it’s the time for them to decide if the post is worthy enough to share or not. The content will be the one that helps them to take that decision, so you have to be very careful. Write correctly, don’t make mistakes and always try to satisfy their curiosity, by telling them interesting things.

Writing quality content is not very hard, but you need to be careful not to screw it, because people only share what they truly enjoy.

3. Images

You know an image is worth a thousands words, so you will have to choose your image carefully for your posts, because they can trigger people’s senses and make them feel what you want them to feel. The image placement is also important, but I will tell you more about it in the structure part.

You should think about everything when choosing the image, from what it represents to the colors and size. Make sure it’s the perfect fit for your post. If you need to explain something through images or talk about something real, then show as many images as you can, because people love them.

4. Structure

You need to make your posts easy to read for your people, so make sure you have a big enough font. Only write black on white and separate it in many paragraphs. If you can, try to structure your post as I did with this one, in more numbered or unnumbered parts, because people will read it easily and won’t get bored that fast.

Also by structuring it very well, you can make them understand better what you’re talking about.

5. Lists

Usually lists go viral more quickly than normal posts, so you need to have this in mind. For example, instead of writing a post entitled “Some cool and weird usb drives,” you might want to use a title like “Top 10 Craziest USB Drives You’ve Ever Seen.” The second title sounds more interesting and it will definitely generate more clicks, while it will get shared more if you make a top 10 list instead of just throwing away 10 photos of the drives in your post.

5. Share Buttons

Make sure to have share buttons at least at the end of your post to make it easier for your readers to RT, Share, Stumble or Digg your post. You can use whatever buttons you want, just make sure to test them all and see what works best for you. You need to test everything, from different social media websites to different button sizes and styles. Make sure not to miss anything.

6. Networking

After you’ve written your killer wanna-be viral post, make sure you let people know about it, so call out your friends and let them spread the word about it. You need to be really persuasive about it, especially if you don’t have a very big readership and you don’t usually get dozens to hundreds of retweets per post.

You can tweet about your post every few hours, ask your friends to retweet it and share on whatever social network works best for you and your blog. I’m not advising you to start spamming people around about it, but you could ask some close friends or bloggers you know and who would like to help you

Conclusion

I hope my post helped you and also I hope I’ve written enough advices for you to succeed with your posts.

Making posts go viral isn’t hard, you just need to pay attention to some things and do your best. Also you need to have a good idea, because you can’t expect any random post to go viral.

If you manage to follow all the tips above, then only sky is the limit for your post.

Please let me know what you think and if you have any further questions or ideas !

Unfortunately, a lot of them are spamming everywhere they can and they finally quit, because spam is no good way of getting traffic.

I’ve tested virtually every possible method of getting traffic, except a few really bad ones, like automated forum or blog comment spamming, because I don’t want to get involved in those kind of activities.

I won’t tell you what worked best for me in the past, because times are changing very fast and so is the internet marketing, but I will tell you what works best for me now.

You should also know I’ve written this post because you’ve requested me to write about traffic driving and this is the first post about it. More are going to come with more details included.

SEO

Currently I’m not getting very much traffic from Google, but it’s still the main source of traffic to my blog, so I definitely have to talk about it. You don’t have to be a SEO expert to get traffic from Google. It’s enough to make some basic on-site optimization and a bit of link building, at least for the start.

Focus on your site structure and try not to place tons of links on your pages. In my opinion, 10 external and 50 internal links are a maximum on every page, so don’t make a huge blogroll even if you have a lot of favorite bloggers. A better way of thanking them for they great posts would be writing a post for this, like I did.

You should also think about your titles and keywords in your articles, but don’t try too hard on this one, because you need to write the posts for your readers, not Google. So, if you can use a better keyword in the title, do it, but make sure it’s still interesting for your readers. Always link to your older posts when writing a post, because this will help you with SEO and also increase page views, because they may be interested in that old posts.

Facebook

You should definitely have a Facebook account and even a Facebook page for your blog and get your friends to like it, of course, only if they are interested in the things you write about. You could also ask your friends to invite their own friends, so you will get a better start.

After that, it’s pretty easy and the easiest way of promoting your blog and your Facebook page is writing about Facebook. You could write Facebook How To’s, Top 10 things on Facebook and so on. This will definitely get you tons of Likes and Shares.

Twitter

With Twitter is a bit harder than with Facebook, because you can’t add friends like with Facebook. You need to make them follow you, though you can do the same and get retweets, which also bring followers. I haven’t been struggling with Twitter very much, but I’ve written some Twitter-related posts and I also tweet about things that people like and this way I got to nearly 10,000 followers, which is quite a good traffic source.

The most important thing you should know about Twitter and especially Twitter users is they hate it when they see a user only posts links to the same site and especially his. So tweet about everything you find interesting related to your account. For example, I tweet about internet marketing, business and technology. Sometimes I tweet funny stuff, because everyone enjoys it.

Guest Posts

Doing guest posts on another blogs can prove to be a great source of targeted traffic and is also a link building method to help you with the SEO. You just have to write a killer post, so the other blog’s readers will be curious to see who wrote it, but make sure to only write on blogs related to yours, because only targeted traffic matters. If you write on a blog that doesn’t have anything to do with your niche, then nobody will be interested in your blog and they will neither visit yours, or visit it and leave immediately and this can prove to be a real time waster.

Blog Comments

Commenting on other blogs can also be a good source of traffic and it also helps with networking and link building. Some blogs have do follow links on comments and others have do follow links on top commentators, so you can make profit of that. Also networking can be really useful, because you may trigger either the blogger’s or the commentators attention and they could share your posts ( retweets, Facebook share ) or even link to them.

Just like with guest posts, you need to make useful comments and don’t spam, because they might mark you as spam and your comments will not appear on any blog anymore. So be careful, use your own name and not a keyword instead, and don’t spam at all. If you feel lazy to make many comments, then make less and better ones. Comments like “Good Post,” “Great,” don’t get any attention and they won’t help you at all.

P.S. Don’t forget I love your feedback and comments !
